Songs & Dance of the Water Dragon
There is a saying that those of Chinese heritage are descendants of the Dragon. Those of us who have crossed oceans to transport and transplant our art and lives into the concrete jungle have woven into our artistry an additional layer of sparkle that is crystalized from salt - sweat, tears, and the ocean. Our community of artists overseas would like to honor this journey by sharing the songs and sights that we have taken with us, and so we have titled the concert in an autobiographical way.
Look for us on the main stage of the Annual Asian Autumn Gourmet and Cultural Festival on August 25th. This is an admissions free, public festival that is hosted by our friends at the Alliance of Asian American Friends, and located on Main Street, between Northern Blvd and 38th Ave. The stage is located at 3702 Main Street, Flushing, NY 11354.
This project is supported by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization program) with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and administered by Flushing Town Hall.

Tea For Harmony: Xinyang Maojian Tea US Tour
The origin of tea is often traced back to Xinyang, Henan, China. The art and craft of tea have been a central part of Xinyang’s cultural heritage.
May 21 marks the fifth "International Tea Day" designated by the United Nations, on which the United Nations Headquarters hosted an exhibition themed "Tea for Harmony·Chajing Yaji Cultural Salon". Between May 21st-25th, we are excited to have tea masters and inheritors of intangible culture share the ritual of tea, and invite audience members to sample tea selections hailed as the “King of Teas”.
Integrated into this tea-themed sensory experience, are music and cultural performances by inheritors of intangible culture. Master artisans from China will perform Guzheng and lead experiential stations including rice dough sculpturing, paper-cutting, tea-meditation, VR experience and so much more. All programs will be live-interpreted by a cultural specialist.
Events at the China Institute and American Dream are free and open to the public.
May 21st: United Nations Headquarters, NYC | “茶和天下雅集” 联合国总部,
May 23rd: Tea For Harmony, Xinyang Maojian Tea Cultural Fair | “茶和天下庆祝活动” 华美协进社,
May 25th: The Avenue at American Dream |
Cultural Context and Background:
In December 2019, the 74th United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing May 21 as International Tea Day, a cultural milestone that honors and celebrates the intrinsic link between tea and human development. On November 29, 2022, "Traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China" became inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The time-honored Chinese tea culture has been passed down for thousands of years and is deeply rooted in the people. It is one of the most recognized part of Chinese culture. Using tea as a medium, the aim of the tour is to strengthen cultural exchange activities, promote distinct regional culture and tourism, and showcase the lifestyle and aesthetic concepts of Xinyang Tea to the world.

New York Starbright Songs of Summer Concert at Merkin Hall
Songs of Summer is a showcase of how Asian American choirs celebrate life through song. Featuring the New York Happy City Chorus, the New Jersey Philharmonic Chorus, Starry Arts Group Children’s Chorus, and Melody Children’s Choir. The evening features a mixed palette of musical genres and songs from different eras and global regions. From Irish and Uighur folk songs to Andrew Lloyd Webber to Italian Opera to pop songs and new works. Music is resonance - and the selected songs are all a reflection of the journeys that the singers themselves have taken, as they move around the world, physically and artistically. Some of our singers are professional and seasoned stage performers, while others are just beginning their musical journeys. "Not all who wander are lost", indeed, because in song, and in choir, these cultural adventurers located a sense of community, joy, and belonging. If you, too, understand placelessness without music, then this concert is not to be missed.
